A woman in her 60's pronounced dead at the scene of a road traffic collision near Churchstoke last night.

Police say the crash, which happened in the early evening, took place near the Blue Bell Hotel on the crossroads of the A489/B4385 junction.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses to the incident, and this morning West Mercia Police issued the following statement:

"Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision near Church Stoke.

"The incident happened on the B4385 close to the cross roads at the A489 junction at around 7.20pm on Tuesday (27 November).

"On arrival, a Nissan Qashqai was found to be in collision with a hedge. The driver - a woman is her 60s - was pronounced deceased at the scene shortly afterwards.

"Her next of kin has been informed and a file passed to the coroner."

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service say two appliances from Bishops Castle were called to the scene at around 8pm.

"At 20:11 on Tuesday, 27 November, 2018, SFRS Fire Control received a call reporting that a Road Traffic Collision had taken place.

"2 fire appliances were mobilised from Bishops Castle. An Operations officer was in attendance.

"Reports of road traffic collision with patient under car. Patient had released from under car before arrival of fire service. Incident was left with ambulance and police."

Police say enquiries are ongoing and are keen to speak with anyone who saw the incident or saw the vehicle and the manner in which it was being driven prior to the collision.
