Whitchurch, Malpas and Oswestry TAGB Taekwondo Club is celebrating success for it competitors.

Students Rebecca Manford and Allen Batterbee achieved their black belts this year, and many of the students have competed in competitions up and down the country.

Instructor Carl Rudolf said the group, which has classes in the three areas, had worked hard this year.

“We had competitors in the English championships, Welsh championships, North Midlands championships, International world championships and the British championships,” he said.

“Rory Tinsley, Emma Slater, Sam Fielding, Carl Willmott, Dan Valentine, Dexter McArdle, Lily Ryder, Chris Southan, Rebecca Manford, Matt Hanks and Daniel Walsh have all competed this year and they’ve all done very well.”

The 11 students competing this year have won a total of 21 medals – five golds, four silver and 12 bronze.

The competitors range from six-years-old to 38.

“I would like to add a massive well done and congratulations to all our members who have all worked to achieve their goals and more this year,” Carl said.

“Their hard work in training and commitment has paid off.

“I would also like to thank everyone that has helped us over the years, in particular my farther who volunteers four evenings a week to help out, teach classes and support the club.

The taekwondo club meets in Whitchurch with two classes on Saturdays at the Leisure Centre at Sir John Talbot School, in Malpas on Mondays at the Jubilee Hall and at the Sports Centre at Bishop Heber High School on Thursdays, and in Oswestry on Tuesdays and Fridays at The Marches.

Classes are mixed and are suitable for all ages and abilities, with Saturday’s class in Whitchurch for ages four and up.
