AJ and paralympian Lauren danced the Salsa and managed to get through to next week's quarter finals, despite being bottom of the leaderboard with a score of just 23.

After last week's performance of the Argentine Tango, Lauren told Strictly that she felt that she had let AJ down.

AJ said: "To go out on a week when you didn't perform best would have been awful.

"This week is going to be our big break – we're dancing the Salsa so it's an opportunity to let go of our inhibitions and go a little bit crazy.

"We need to add extra energy to the dance and bring more of Lauren's personality to the floor."

The pair danced to Liam Payne and J Balvin's hit Familiar and received a good reaction from the audience, but the judges weren't as bowled over.

Judge Darcey Bussell said: "It was a really complex dance and the first lift was really nice.

"But the feet got a bit messy and it's important to soften your knees a little more."

Head judge Shirley Ballas said: "I don't think it's the best number you've done but I did enjoy it.

"You need strength in your legs and feet, which will improve the footwork."

Bruno Tonioli said that AJ had given Lauren some difficult choreography, adding that Lauren "can't be shy when doing the Salsa."

Meanwhile judge Craig Revell-Horwood thought the dance was lack luster, and said it was "a shame".

AJ said he was proud of Lauren and that they'd enjoyed their rehearsals this week.

All the dancers then took part in a Strictly first – a Lindyhopathon. The challenge saw all seven pairs of dancers performing their own dance on the floor at the same time, while the judges look on.

AJ and Lauren were awarded seventh place, but despite the low scores on the board, the couple are through to next week's Musicals week.
