CHILDREN In Need supporters put on a host of events last week to support the nationwide fundraising campaign.

Whitchurch Junior School pupils held a fancy dress day, performed magic tricks and baked and sold cakes.

Hundreds of well-wishers in the region took to the streets to cheer on TV presenter Matt Baker taking on a mammoth biking challenge.

BBC TV's The One Show host passed through several towns as he led a group of bikers on their Rickshaw Challenge for Children in Need.

Hundreds of people gathered in the streets of Wem, Ellesmere, Welshampton and Overton to catch a glimpse of the former Blue Peter presenter as the group cycled towards the finish line at Salford Quays’ Media City.

The group of bikers started in Calais and made their way up the country as they were cheered along the way by thousands of well-wishers.

Ken and Sheila Langston of Wem were out supporting the cyclists as they passed through.

Ken said: “We thought we would get out and give them some support.

“It seems as though we have about a hundred bike races a year coming through the area that we live in, but this one is for a very good cause and it is good to know it will make a great difference.

“It was nice to see how many people were supporting them.”
