A Newtown town and county councillor dropped in to help a town charity launch it's Christmas appeal.

Independent councillor Joy Jones dropped in to the launch of The Salvation Army’s annual ‘Christmas Toy & Tins Appeal’, which relies on the generosity of the public to donate gifts and toys for children and young people who otherwise would have little or nothing on Christmas morning.

The appeal has seen thousands of toys and gifts donated by the people of Newtown and they say hundreds of lives have been brightened in the process.

This year’s appeal will run until Wednesday, December 19.

Salvation Army Territorial Envoy Sam Jones added: “During the festive season, when many are enjoying celebrations with friends and family, others are struggling to make ends meet, often through no fault of their own.

“Last year we met people who were struggling following work place accidents, recent bereavement and relationship breakdowns”.

“The Christmas Story inspires us as a church to reach out to those in need, so we’re running the appeal to ensure every child gets a present and meal on Christmas Day.”

Anyone wishing to make a donation can drop into the Salvation Army shop on Market Street.
