Hundreds of people turned out to see the Christmas lights switched on in Llandrindod Wells on Saturday evening.

The national vice president of Tangent Clubs in Great Britain, Sue Hill pressed the plunger on the bandstand to bring that festive cheer to the town as it was illuminated with Christmas lights. She was visiting the town to join in the 21st anniversary celebrations of the local Llandrindod Tangent Club being formed.

After switching on the lights Sue Hill, accompanied by Heather Richardson, chairman, and fellow members of the local Tangent Club, judged the competitions for the best dressed Christmas and Pantomime themed person and the competition for the best festive lantern. First place in the fancy dress competition was taken by Ava Percy and in the best lantern competition the winner was Sophia Morgan. The Mayor of Llandrindod Wells Councillor Jon Williams acted as master of ceremonies for the event.

Earlier those entering the competitions had joined in a parade from the railway station car park to the town bandstand, led by the local Round Table Father Christmas float, with Santa wishing everybody a Happy Christmas on route. The Llandrindod Wells Town Silver band played festive music on the bandstand during the evening.

The event was organised by the Llandrindod Wells Town Council and the Festive Lighting Committee.
