A WOMAN drove home from a Bonfire Night party despite being more than twice over the drink driving limit, a court heard.

Appearing at North East Wales Magistrates’ Court, Alison Hind, 29, admitted drinking at the Buck House Hotel in Wrexham on November 4 before getting behind the wheel of her BMW in the early hours of the morning.

Hind was stopped by police officers on Holt Road in Cross Lanes after she was spotted veering on to the oncoming carriageway and gave a reading of 78 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Steve Mullarkey, defending, said Hind, of Kiln Lane, Cross Lanes, had booked a taxi but had been told it was a one hour wait and so made the decision to drive home.

He added that Hind, who works as a hairdresser in Wrexham and had no previous convictions, was “very remorseful” and thought she was OK to drive after eating at the party.

She was fined £300 and disqualified from driving for 19 months and will also pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.
