A GYM in Wrexham could be set to make way in order for a discount store to expand.

Simply Gym on Holt Street is currently part of the same building as Home Bargains in the town centre.

However, an application has now been submitted for the unit to be converted into one large store for the national chain.

TJ Morris Limited, which is behind the proposals, said the new unit would measure approximately 3,108 square metres.

In a planning statement, they said: “The proposals are to allow the creation of a single retail unit at the site that will be occupied by an extended Home Bargains store.

“The site benefits from its own dedicated car parking with a total of 241 spaces.

“No changes are proposed to the car park as part of this planning application.

“These modifications, together with a widening of the retail uses to include 30 per cent provision for the sale of food and drink across the enlarged unit, will enable the site to be occupied by a larger Home Bargains store.”

The company claims the changes will result in less traffic using the site as a result of the gym moving away.

They added that it would not have a severe impact on people’s safety.

Wrexham Council will consider the proposals at a later date.
