A newly-opened Oswestry pub put their opening day to good use by raising money for Hope House.

Local businessman Alex Sevim and his wife Michelle are now the new residents at The Royal Oak Inn, Treflach.

Alex and Michelle opened their doors on October 20 with a celebratory opening day.

Throughout the day, they provided a free buffet and held a raffle to support the local children’s hospice, Hope House.

This isn’t the first time they have shown their support to the charity with ongoing fundraising taking place at Alex’s other business, USA Friend Chicken in Oswestry.

Hundreds of customers passed through the doors during the opening day and £140 was raised to help Hope House support local seriously ill children and their families.

“We are thrilled to hear the success of Alex and Michelle’s first weekend at The Royal Oak Inn and are so grateful for their support” said Lynsey Kilvert, fundraiser at Hope House.

“Every week three local families face their worst fear and their child dies. Sadly, Hope House can currently only afford to support one. With the support of local businesses and our local community we will do everything we can to ensure no family suffers the death of a child alone”.

Alex and Michelle have pledged to continue supporting Hope House and will be hosting quiz nights once a fortnight to do this. The quiz nights will be held on a Wednesday, starting December 21.
