A NATIONAL collection of model soldiers in Oswestry has expanded.

The British Model Soldier Society's National Collection has been on display for the past three months at the British Ironwork Centre.

Several committee members came along to view the newest displays for the public to see on Tuesday, November 13.

They were also present to offer advice and encourage the Ironworks to find the extra resources needed to bring all of the remaining elements from the collection.

These elements will include the remaining collection from Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire and other parts from several other national locations, to complete this national treasure.

This national collection now comprises of more than 20,000 different items, ranging from individual soldiers to whole battle scenes.

Every year the collection grows in size, with the help of supporters and benefactors, leaving individual pieces or large collections to the national Society for the public to enjoy and learn from.

A commitment has been offered to increase the displays in the beginning of the New Year.

Thereafter, The Ironwork’s plan to invite schools from around Shropshire and the region to visit and learn about this colossal public collection and how it represents and captures all the conflicts and battles from across the ages.

The official unveiling and launch are still being organised the date will be announced in the imminent future.
