Thieves stole money from a cash machine while vehicle tyres were slashed at Presteigne police station during an incident in the early hours of this morning, Tuesday 13.

Officers at Dyfed-Powys Police say the theft took place just after midnight and may be linked to a similar incident which occurred in Llanfair Caereinion on October 31.

Thieves gained access to the cash machine at around 12.35am, stealing the contents, and made off from the area at speed in what Police have described as a dark coloured Audi or similar type vehicle.

At around the same time, damage was caused to the tyres of vehicles at Presteigne Police Station, but officers say it is not known whether these two incidents are connected.

Detective Chief Inspector Martin Slevin of Dyfed-Powys Police has urged the public to be on the lookout for 'suspicious activity' near to cash machines or vehicles in the area.

"Police officers and crime scene investigators are at the scene making enquiries to identify suspects," he said.

"There was a similar attack in Llanfair Caereinion on 31st October and we are exploring the links between these two attacks. We are working with neighbouring forces as part of the investigation and increasing patrols in areas we consider vulnerable to targeting."

Last month, the botched raid on a cash machine outside a petrol station in Llanfair Caereinion saw thieves leave the scene empty handed.

The incident at the Londis and Texaco Garage, also known as Bridge Garage, on Pool Road happened at 2.30am on Monday, October 31.

It was also reported that a dark coloured vehicle was seen leaving the area.

Police are now urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or have information about it, to get in touch with them.

"I urge anyone who saw what happened, or has any other information that could help, to please call us on 101," added DCI Slevin.

"I would ask members of our communities to be vigilant and report and suspicious activity or vehicles around cash machines to the police”.
