A PIPER started the Armistice Day commemorations in Oswestry with a touching tribute to the fallen.
John Offen joined others across the United Kingdom in playing The Battle is Over on his Northumbrian smallpipes at 6am.
Later in the morning, large crowds gathered in Oswestry town centre for the annual Remembrance Parade.
An Oswestry Town Council spokesman took to Twitter to reflect on a successful ceremony.
A spokesman said: "The largest Oswestry Remembrance Parade in many years.
"A huge thanks to everyone who marched, attended the Memorial Gates and the Parish Church or lined the route. We will remember them."
More crowds are expected at the Old Oswestry Hillfort from 6.30pm for a beacon-lighting ceremony.
