A FORMER airman will tell tales of his adventures in a forthcoming library talk.

Group Captain Jon Fynes (retired) will give a talk about his RAF career at Oswestry Library from 12.30-1.30pm on November 21.

Grp Capt Fynes was the RAF pallbearer at the Queen Mother’s funeral, jousted with 1,600 media reps as the RAF spokesman for the second Gulf War and featured in an episode of Blue Peter tackling an unusual challenge with his son.

Admission to the event, which is one of the Learning at Lunchtime events, is £3 and places should be booked with library.

Other events on the calendar include a Words and Music event at 7pm on Thursday, November 21 to celebrate the restorative power of words.

Devil’s Chair will provide the music while author Trixie Roberts will read from her new book, entitled Bananas.

Meanwhile, Helen Sharman will reads a selection of her favourite works, and the winners of this year’s poetry competition will be announced.

Dave Andrews will close the event with a reading of Dylan Thomas classic A Child’s Christmas in Wales.

Tickets £7.50 from library staff, and proceeds from the event will go to the Reader/Writer in Residence project.

Chloe Murray is hosting Singing for Health sessions every Friday this month from 10.30-11.45am.

Sessions aim to show people how to relax and discover how singing can support wellbeing

Tickets are £6.50 and can be booked from theatre staff.

Youngsters can enjoy free Rhyme Time sessions on November 12, 19 and 26. The sessions offer half an hour of nursery rhymes and singing.

There is no need to book a place at the sessions, which are held from 2-2.30pm.
