THERE was plenty of family fun as Oswestry's annual bonfire and fireworks display proved a roaring success.

Hundreds of people attended the bonfire and fireworks display at Brogyntyn Park on Saturday.

The event is organised by Borderland Rotary Club in association with Oswestry Town Council.

Last year's celebration raised around £8,000 for charities in the area.

Chris Brian-Smith, of Borderland Rotary Club, said that this year's total had not yet been announced, but the aim was to exceed the amount raised in 2017.

"Yes, it was another fabulous firework party at Brogyntyn on Saturday evening.

"As darkness fell, hundreds of people were on the march, big ones, little one and some in-between and all with one purpose - to enjoy a fantastic firework display and see a massive fire blazing away– and no one was disappointed.

He added: "The community of Oswestry always seems to support this event with such enthusiasm."

Mr Brian-Smith told how the club had worked on the event with Oswestry Town Council.

He added: "Lots of local charities will benefit from the money raised and it’s time to say a big thank you to the people of Oswestry for bringing a sparkly to the firework party."
