A popular Builth Wells barman will run the world’s largest marathon to raise money for a charity which provided vital support for his parents after they were diagnosed with cancer.

Dom Lloyd, a well-known face to customers of The Fountain Inn, Builth Wells, is trading pulling pints for pulling muscles this November, as he takes on his ultimate challenge by running the TCS New York Marathon.

He will be running in order to fundraise for Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity close to his heart following both his parents beating cancer in recent years.

“Cancer affects us all in some way, Macmillan are a fantastic charity who supported my family through some very difficult times,” Dom said.

“Both of my parents have fought cancer, and come out the other side, and Macmillan were there every step of the way. Raising some funds for them is my way of saying thank you, and giving a little bit back”

Dom Lloyd will be packing his trainers, Macmillan vest, and city map ahead of the New York Marathon next month.

Dom Lloyd will be packing his trainers, Macmillan vest and city map ahead of the New York Marathon this month.

Since being offered his place in the largest marathon in the world in April, Dom has been a regular sight on the footpaths of Builth Wells, and having never run competitively before, he has clocked up over 500km in training runs ahead of what will be both a physical and mental trial.

"It has been great fun to train for, although I can imagine the home straight in Central Park being a little longer than running along the Groe.”

Dom aims to complete the race in four and a half hours, and will be supported by his brother Daniel, and friend Greg in New York. His progress can be tracked by downloading the TCSNYCMarathon App and searching Dominic Lloyd or bib number 53189.

You can sponsor Dom on his JustGiving page or by calling into The Fountain Inn.
