Shropshire Council has said that any further building on a Park Hall building site is at the developer's "own risk".

Controlled explosions took place at an Artillery Road building site last week following investigations at a Chartland Homes development.

Bomb disposal teams and emergency services were on hand as old wartime shells were detonated in a field near site in Park Crescent.

West Mercia police has confirmed that controlled explosions were taking place and that local residents were not being evacuated but were advised to remain at the back of their property and away from windows.

Andrew Jones from Chartland Homes, the developer of the Park Crescent site, said there was no danger to residents.

Mr Jones added ordnance has been found during an ongoing investigation on the Park Crescent site, and that transportation of artillery is all part of a planned procedure.

He said: "This is a completely planned procedure and there is no danger to residents."

However residents expressed concerns at the operation, with one contacting The Advertizer stating an explosion contradicted claims of a small bang, by saying that there was "big booming noise with sand sent high into the air."

Tim Rogers, Shropshire Council’s area planning manager, said: “The developer is using specialist consultants and contractors to deal with potentially dangerous military equipment, and any other potential contamination at the site.

“They have been reminded of the need to undertake a full contamination assessment of the site and carry out any appropriate remediation before any further development continues. They have confirmed that they intend to comply with these requirements.

“It has also been made clear that any further work is entirely at their own risk.”
