CHILDREN said farewell to a well-loved staff member during a 'this is your life' assembly.

Kathleen Hampson - known as Kath - worked at Ysgol Y Foryd as school secretary for 27 years. She retired prior to the half term break.

Mrs Hampson, who is married to David, is from Rhyl and lives in Kinmel Bay.

She turned 60 on October 18 and is keen to spend more time with her family.

Nicola Rowlands, acting headteacher at Y Foryd, said: "The assembly was the perfect way to celebrate Mrs Hampson's life at Y Foryd. "It couldn't have gone better.

"The morning stated as a surprise for Kath. She was sitting in the office when myself and Mrs Williams entered the office to announce ' this is your life - please come with us'.

"A video projected onto the big screen in the hall and as she entered, the theme tune played.

"The powerpoint talked about her growing up, loving Rick Astley but married David and having tow children - Lindsey and Adam, who both attended Y Foryd.

"Kath took over from a previous secretary who had also worked at the school for 27 years previous, Mrs Beavan."

Mrs Rowlands said Mrs Hampson always puts the needs of others first and words had been used such as she was the 'mum of the school' and an 'inspiration'.

She added: "The assembly finished with a video of Rick Astley whereby staff were seen in parts of the video using our clever 'green screen' technology.

"Staff sang the chorus 'never going to give you up.'"

Mrs Rowlands said Mrs Hampson's reaction was recorded on camera.

She said: "It was projected onto the interactive whiteboard in the hall - it was priceless.

"She was shocked and overwhelmed seeing her family, friends and colleagues from years ago in the audience.

We can’t express in words how much we’ll miss her but are also excited for the adventure she has to come. she deserves a long rest."

Mrs Hampson also received a reward for ‘outstanding contribution to the community’ at the Towyn and Kinmel Bay awards.
