A GROUP has been set up to collect donations that can be given to families to help them over the festive period.

Santa’s Helpers Chirk is looking to collect any toys, games, books and jigsaws that are used or new in excellent condition.

Also, any unwanted old Christmas gifts that are suitable for older children, teenagers or adults are welcomed, along with food to help families get through the holiday season.

Tracy Butler is one of the people who helped to set up the group.

She said: “I decided to do this with my nan in mind, who recently passed away aged 96.

“Nan always had time for everyone and would have given her last penny to anyone in need of it – she always taught us to help other people and look out for people less fortunate.

“I’m hoping to reach out to families in the strictest of confidence to help put smiles on their children’s faces.

“We’re looking to help families less fortunate than ourselves and the elderly who may be alone or financially struggling this Christmas.

“As a community I feel the people of Chirk are pretty amazing when it comes to looking after their own.

“They all have big hearts.”

Tracy has been taken aback by the response to the group.

She said: “I’ve had families contact me for some support which has touched my heart.

“Families have donated their children’s toys to help others from as far as Oswestry and Wrexham.”

The group extended its thanks to those who have donated and those who have helped to spread the word.

Tracy added: “Thank you to Sammy Clarke at Panda Mania Designs and everyone who has donated.

“I’m overwhelmed by everyone’s kindness. I’m sure Nan is smiling.”

Santa’s Helpers Chirk is willing to collect any donations, and will welcome drop-off donations at Seventh Heaven in Chirk, LL145BU.

The group asks that any donations of presents are in excellent condition and that any food donations are in date until after Christmas.
