A DEESIDE radio host aims to raise awareness about homelessness by volunteering at a local soup kitchen.

Lynne Chick and Lisa Mckessy-Schofield, presenters of Loose Ladies, will be helping out at Soul Kitchen in Chester next month and speaking to those in need.

Lynne said it is the perfect time of year to raise awareness of the issue as the winter nights are drawing in.

She added: "We were contacted by a lady on our website who asked if we wanted to go up there and talk to people and help out. They are all volunteers and we thought it would be good to show what they do.

"I've been on the streets before helping the homeless. I went with a group from Deeside - Help the Homeless - handing out meals and talking to people. It's really sad to see, it's freezing on the streets.

"It's something I'm really passionate about and our show is about raising awareness and helping as many people as possible.

"It's nice to be hands on in the community and further a field."

The pair will be at the kitchen between 5pm and 7pm on November 17 and said if anyone wants to drop off donated items such as sleeping bags, they will deliver them.

Loose Ladies is a show aired on Radio Deeside every week.

Lynne added: "The Deeside community and Flintshire as a whole have been there for me when I went through my sad times when I lost my daughters, so it's nice to give something back.

"We are quite lucky in Flintshire, it's not something you see on a regular basis. Flintshire County Council is on the ball when told about people on the streets.

"We are quite fortunate, people bad mouth our council but they are quick acting at getting people off the streets."
