A ZOO has welcomed two tiny baby cotton-top tamarins and a group of new primates.

The babies, at The Welsh Mountain zoo in Colwyn Bay, haven’t yet been sexed and are staying close to mum and dad.

The distinctive small primates are extremely vocal.

Six striking, long haired goeldi monkey have also arrived at the zoo.

The monkeys have joined the cotton top tamarin monkeys in an existing enclosure.

Mum, Maya, brings along her daughter Carlota and four sons, Dojan, Cusco, Coari and Marois from Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland. Originating from South America, the species is classed as vulnerable and the decision to home the monkeys forms part of the zoo’s commitment to conservation and breeding.

Jen Jesse, administration and operations director at the Welsh Mountain Zoo said: “There’s been some very exciting developments with our primates in recent weeks including our new baby arrivals as well as a new group that have joined us.

"The primates are always one of the biggest draws for visitors – the new goeldi moneys are already settling in and some lucky visitors may be able to catch a glimpse of the cotton top babies as they start to explore their new surroundings."

The two baby cotton top tamarins were born to existing residents.

This is the first time that this particular couple have bred at the zoo.
