THE RE-DEVELOPMENT of a Connah’s Quay garage site could create several job opportunities, a councillor has said.

Earlier this year planning inspectors dismissed proposals to demolish an existing Esso petrol filling station and convenience store in Church Street in order to redevelop the site with a new filling station, convenience store and drive-thru bakery.

Flintshire Council has now received fresh plans for the same scheme but this time without the drive-thru bakery.

Councillor Paul Shotton, of the Golftyn Ward, said: "A renewed application has come in. One of the main objections for the refusal last time was about the drive in, that has now been taken out.

"If this now goes through, it will provide 15 full-time and part-time jobs.

"There would also be much better shopping on offer for the residents in the area of Golftyn."

The Leader previously reported that the applicant, The Euro Garages Ltd, turned to the Planning Inspectorate to launch an appeal after the initial application remained undecided eight weeks after the target decision date.

According to a transport statement document, the appeal had been dismissed following highway related issues.

The application will be discussed by Connah's Quay Town Council's Planning Committee on Monday, October 29 at 6.15pm at the Council's Chamber on Fron Road.
