A GROUP of residents is celebrating a strong of successes in tackling several issues in the community.

The Trees Residents Group first met in August 2016 after forming a partnership with STAR Housing to try and tackle the issues that had been affecting their community.

Drugs problems that were causing concern for the residents are starting to reduce, with anti-social behaviour also on the decline.

A Shropshire Council spokesman said that this is in no small part down to the residents group working alongside partners such as STAR Housing and West Mercia Police.

Martin Whitelegg, STAR Housing’s neighbourhoods manager, has praised the ongoing efforts of the residents group:

“The Trees Residents Group are a prime example of how resident involvement can vastly improve our communities, and we encourage our other communities to follow their lead.”

Also among a growing list of improvements made in the community by group members is the installation a grit bin and replace old and damaged bins on Chestnut Avenue.

This comes after the very poor weather that hit the region earlier this year, and the damage done to the bins already in the area by acts of anti-social behaviour.

The Trees Residents Group has also addressed parking problems in the area, particularly the parking on the pavement on College Road which was leaving residents inconvenienced and disgruntled.

The continuing partnership between The Trees Residents Group and STAR Housing is regularly publicised by the organisation’s Facebook page, which receives an average of 243 visits every 36-hours.

The Trees estate includes Fir Grove, Beech Grove, Hazel Grove, Lilac Grove, Hawthorn Grove, Pine Grove, Lime Grove, Chestnut Avenue, Maple Avenue, Laburnum Drive, Cherry Tree Drive, College Road, Holy Green and Sycamore Drive.
