DO (Disability Oswestry) started its Autumn programme with an excellent talk about the work of Designs in Mind and Jolt.

Rakhee Jones told the group about how Designs in Mind help people who have been in contact with mental health services, and also the role of Jolt in their activities.

She also told us about her new business – The Roving Loom, which was launched last Saturday (October 13).

DO’s next meeting is next Wednesday, October 24.

This will be at 10.30am in Hope Church, Laburnum Avenue, Oswestry, SY11 2QR.

Claire Norris, Independent Living Advisor for Transhouse, now known as Ethos Group Oswestry, will be talking about their work in providing transitional housing and support for people with spinal cord injuries.

Claire writes the following about Ethos Group Oswestry and its role in the community.

“Transhouse Oswestry, which is based at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, was launched 25 years ago to provide transitional housing and support for people with spinal cord injuries.

“We provide adapted and wheelchair accessible accommodation for people who have just left hospital or people who are currently living in accommodation that does not suit their needs.

“Recognising the significant changes in health, housing and the care sector, whilst developing support to meet the diverse and complex needs of our current and future clients, we consider that this is an appropriate time to modernise the charity and update its image.

“Over the last 12 months we have taken the opportunity to rebrand the charity and adopt the new name of Ethos Group Oswestry, to reflect its wider work in supporting people with all disabilities to participate in mainstream society. “

This organisation has been doing brilliant work over the last 25 years, and this will be another excellent talk.

DO’s tag line is “We can do”.

We support a lot of local groups who support people with any kind of disability.

However our meetings are open to absolutely everybody interested in the subject. You would be made very welcome.
