TRIBUTES have been paid to a devoted football fan who died after a collision.

The New Saints FC fan Steve Norcross, known affectionately as 'Ginge', who was involved in a collision with a car near Oswestry on Saturday evening.

The collision happened just before 10.45pm on the A5 in Gobowen near to the junction with the B5009.

Club chairman Mike Harris said: "The sad news of the loss of Steve has come as a huge shock to me and the club.

"He was such a great fellow, one of the lads, but always kind and considerate to all. In this we have lost a very dear person, whom I am proud to have called a friend."

Finance director Helen Harris also sent his condolences to Mr Norcross' family and friends.

She added: "It is very sad to hear that an avid supporter and a true gentleman known as Ginge has been taken away from us in such tragic circumstances.

"A passionate New Saints fan, who travelled far and wide to support the team. He was a lovable person, always pleasant and everyone’s friend.

"He will be truly missed pitch-side and at The Venue."

Ian Williams, TNS chief operating officer, added: "Words cannot describe how devastated I am hearing the news that my good friend Ginge has tragically been taken from us.

"He loved The New Saints FC and was a true supporter of the club, following both home and away and on many of our European adventures.

"My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends today, he will be sadly missed."

Enquiries are on-going into the collision and police are appealing for witnesses.
