ROTARIANS in Oswestry have given generously to an appeal to help survivors of a natural disaster.

Oswestry Cambrian Rotary Club is sending £680 to disaster recovery organisation Shelter Box to help people affected by Indonesian earthquake and tsunami.

The charity will provide a "Shelter Box", which is has a large frame tent for protection from the elements for a family of eight, blankets for warmth, a wood burning stove and cooking utensils, hand tools and a water purification system.

An Oswestry Cambrian Rotary spokesman said: "The ShelterBox organisation is made up of people who believe in shelter as a human right.

"They provide the tools that enable people to rebuild homes and transform their lives.

"Their volunteers go to the ragged ends of the earth to reach the most remote communities that have been devastated by disaster."

The spokesman added that aid is hand-packed with care before being transported around the world.

The highly trained ShelterBox response teams then go the extra mile to find the people left most vulnerable after a disaster – to make sure that no one gets forgotten or left behind.
