POLICE spotted a suspect vehicle at 5.45pm on Thursday as it drove along the B5070 through Chirk Bank.

After failing to stop the police engaged in a pursuit into Chirk itself, where the car was eventually stopped on the main road.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "Police attempted to stop a suspect vehicle at 6.09pm. The vehicle failed to stop but was stopped shortly after on High Street, Chirk.

"A 42-year-old man from Oswestry was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs. He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

"Anyone with information that could help police with their enquiries can call 101 quoting the incident number 583s. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
