Llangollen Canal is set to host its second international cross-border duck race.

The Canal & River Trust charity will be hosting the event on the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct on Sunday.

The event, jointly organised by Wrexham County Council, is free but competitors are invited to make a donation.

Competitors do not need to register in advance but must arrive at Chirk Basin on the day at 10.30am and register their name against a duck.

Trust mascot Vinnie the Vole will wave off the duck race at 11.15am from the Welsh side of the aqueduct and join spectators in cheering on the ducks.

The first international duck race hosted by the canal took place last October, where a crowd watched 100 ducks race across the bridge.

Ani Sutton, Canal & River Trust development manager, said: “More than 150 people attended the event last year, and this year we hope there will be even more.

“It’s a fabulous way to showcase Chirk Aqueduct which is part of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal World Heritage Site.”

First prize for the winner is a family ticket to Chirk Castle. Visitors are urged to walk or cycle to the site and use the event as an opportunity to explore the World Heritage Site.
