MUSIC is the family for a professional singer who has just set up a talent academy in the area.

Gemma Johnson - wife to Adam, the younger brother of the Richard and Adam duo - decided to use her performing skills to "give something back to the community."

The Liverpool born girl who now lives in Holywell with her new husband set up Stage Gems Performing Arts Stage School at Bagillt Community Centre, aimed at children of all ages and abilities who want to try their hand at being mini superstars.

Gemma said: "We practice every Monday and Wednesday with various classes from 4.15-6.30pm, and it's singing, dancing, acting - the whole thing. Street dancing is the most popular, the children all love that.

"I've been singing since I was a young girl, then I went to the Paul McCartney school and studied performing arts. I sang on cruise ships then for seven years but then when I settled down with Adam and moved to Holywell, I wanted to start a stage school.

"Singing is my life. I still sing at holiday parks, weddings, golf clubs and weekend events, but focus on stage school in the week. We're also going to be starting Saturday sessions in the next few months too."

Adam said her relationship with Adam was "a musical love-story" as the pair met singing in a cabaret club in Liverpool many years ago.

Adam, and brother Richard, are also proud patrons of Stage Gems.

Gemma said: "They're really proud to be part of a family-run organisation, especially as they grew up in Holywell. When they grew up there wasn't much around to do with singing, so I'm really proud too to give something back to their local community."

She added that she has settled well into the area - albeit "quieter" than Liverpool, and said she likes how everyone is so friendly.
