UEFA Europa League third round qualifying

FC Midtjyllan 3

The New Saints 1

Scott Ruscoe's TNS side will turn their thoughts to domestic domination after their European adventure came to an end in Denmark.

Dean Ebbe's first-half strike in their Europa League third qualifying round second leg clash with Danish champions FC Midtjylland brought Saints level after Mayron George gave them the lead, but two goals from sub Simon Okosun put the tie out of reach.

Saints's hopes of an early breakthrough and a way back into the tie were dashed as George finished with a well-taken goal from close range on 16 minutes, despite some early TNS pressure.

Moments after the goal, Aaron Edwards so nearly got TNS back into it but he saw his effort rebound off the post and away to safety.

But they did get that all-important first away goal to drag themselves level with their Danish hosts as Ebbe took advantage of a defensive error to slot home and give Saints hope.

Paul Onuachu, hero for the Danes in the first leg, spurned a glorious chance to score when he fired over the bar from the edge of the box on 43 minutes.

Saints had it all to play for in the second, knowing two goals would send them through as they entered into the break at 1-1.

TNS were straight out of the blocks after the break as Jon Routledge had a shot blocked in the penalty area.

However it was the Danes who regained their lead on 61 minutes after substitute Okosun scored with what would have been one of his first touches as he slotted a rebound from Paul Harrison's save.

Ruscoe's men had to withstand a small onslaught after the goal as Midtjylland stepped up a gear, hoping to kill the tie off.

And they did when on 79 minutes, another set-piece was flung into the Saints' box and despite Harrison getting a hand to it, Okosun's header proved too strong and the tie was over.
