IMAGES of a "mindless" vandal defacing a town's memorial which commemorates thousands of brave soldiers have been released as part of a police appeal.

North Wales Police (NWP) have been appealing for information after two "despicable" acts of vandalism left the Silent Solider on Mold's Daniel Owen Square damaged beyond repair.

Damage to the haunting figure of a lone soldier was reported to police on Wednesday July 25 after it had found to have bent and scratched.

But the damage in the latest attack has left the silhouette beyond all reasonable repair.

NWP South Flintshire posted four images on Twitter this morning which aims to help them in their search for the anonymous vandal.

The CCTV images show suspicious behaviour on the Daniel Owen Square for a period of ten minutes, taken in the late hours of Monday, July 30.

The Tweet read: "Further criminal damage was caused to the war memorial on the Daniel Owen Square, Mold at approximately 11pm on the 30/07/2018. This shows a total lack of respect. If anyone can ID the youths in the picture please phone 101 quoting W106912 #SilentSoldier #NoRespect."

Samantha Roberts, the Mold Town Council clerk, said: “It’s so upsetting to experience a second attempt in a week to deface the Silent Soldier."
