MOTORING aficionados marked the record-breaking 20th anniversary of a vehicle event.

Organisers of the Wem Vehicles of Interest Rally and Grand Parade have taken to social media to thank the crowds for turning out in force for Sunday’s event.

In a post on the event’s Facebook page, organisers said: “A big thank you to everyone who attended our show today, especially those who brought along vehicles. We have had a record turnout and a great day.”

The show kicked off with a colourful grand parade through the town, leading to the event venue at Wem Recreational Ground.

A total of 450 vehicles were showcased at the event, which has become a fixture in the town’s events calendar.

Among the vehicles on display were a 1930 three-wheeler Morgan – which has a V twin engine, is a two speeder with no reverse and chain driven, giving a top speed of 80mp – and a 2002 rally car.

As well as the wealth of vehicles of on display, the show also featured live music, trade/catering stalls, a fair ground and a visit from an RAF helicopter.

The show is celebrating 20 years since its first small gathering on the main car park and donates any proceeds to charity.

Proceeds from the event will go to the chosen charities of the mayor of Wem, Blood Bikes and West Midlands Air Ambulance.

The total amount raised will be confirmed at the event’s next committee meeting. Preparations are being made for next year’s event.

A spokesman said: “Everyone was very complimentary about the show and parade.”
