The annual Sweet Pea Show took place in Wem over the weekend, which saw record numbers attend the 30th anniversary.

Taking place in the Stanier Hall at Thomas Adams School. the Eckford Sweet Pea Society of Wem welcomed more than 1,750 people to the two day event.

Val Good, from the society said the show went very well.

“Considering the weather, there was plenty on show for visitors to enjoy,” she said.

“There were over 70 classes for sweet peas and there were lots of winners which is always lovely to see.

“The planning for the show starts in the August before, when we have our AGM. So it takes almost a year to plan, and we get a month’s break which is needed!”

This year the show celebrated it’s 30th anniversary with special classes for the contestants to enter. Val has been involved with the show from the very beginning.

“I’ve been involved with the show for 30 years. We’ve seen the same competitors and we’ve seen new ones joining the show, which is great.

“It hasn’t changed much in 30 years, it’s a classic show.”
