With the hot weather and England;s World Cup quarter0-final with Sweden, it probably wasn't the best day to hold a summer fete.

However, not one, not two but three of Whitchurch's care homes did so and still enjoyed a successful day to help give residents a nice day out.

There were events at Greenfields Care Home in Liverpool Road, Edgeley House in Edgeley Road and Weston House in Green End all brought the best out of Whitchurch and raised hundreds of pounds for comfort funds across the homes.

Sarah Haycocks works at Greenfields and while she was fully aware that the other care homes were having their special days, as well as the England game, but was still delighted to be able raise money for their residents.

She said: "We raised £500 for the Resident's Comfort Fund.

"It was a quieter occasion than last year obviously, but £500 isn't too bad considering what we were up against."

There was plenty for residents to enjoy at the each of the fetes, with refreshments, stalls, competitions and prizes all on offer, with young and old enjoying.
