A marathon-runner has raised over £4,000 for the Oswestry Stroke Club.

Cath Jackson took on the London Marathon in April.

But despite the gruelling conditions – with temperatures reaching almost 23 degrees to make it the hottest day in the history of the event – she still completed the 26.2-mile course in six hours, 58 minutes and 50 seconds.

After completing the race, Cath told the Advertizer how it was “an awesome experience” despite the temperatures, adding: “I had people who I didn’t know shouting my name and calling me a hero.

“I didn’t care whether I walked, crawled or ran, I was getting over that line. I’d thoroughly recommend anyone to do it.”

Her efforts were worth it with the 35-year-old, from Gobowen securing £4,373.02.

Cath recently presented the cheque to club chairman Michael Garrett, who was joined by the town’s new Mayor, Councillor Sandy Best and her Mayoress, Marilyn Taylor.
