Administration assistant Kristine Griffiths has won the latest Health Hero Award at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in recognition of her “massive contribution”.

Kristine, who works in the estates and facilities department, won the award for her role in support services for keeping the Oswestry-based hospital running day-to-day.

The award is presented to unsung heroes from across the hospital, who are nominated by their peers for going the extra mile to help.

She was nominated by Hannah Sinclair, personal assistant to the associate director of estates and facilities and office manager.

Hannah said: “The first experience people have with the hospital, when they’re already feeling nervous, is using the car park. Keeping this running smoothly is an invisible but vital part of the support services.

“Most people will not realise the contribution Kristine makes in keeping the car park renewal process going each year. Thousands of Orthopaedic staff, volunteers, governors, foundation trust members and more have their new parking permits sent to the estates office every year.

“It takes a person with particular patience and diligent attitude to complete what is a thankless task of ensuring all permits are distributed correctly.

“It involves coming across people she has never met, who can be anxious and frustrated, putting them at ease by demonstrating competence and just getting the job done.

“As her line manager, I step back and recognise the massive contribution Kristine makes and I believe she deserves wider recognition for the job she does.”

Kristine, who previously won the Apprentice of the Year Award at the 2016 Celebration of Achievement Awards, was thrilled to receive this latest recognition.

“I am absolutely delighted to receiving this award, it was totally unexpected.

“I would like to thank Hannah for nominating me, and the rest of the estates and facilities department, who are a great team to work with.”

She was announced the latest Health Hero winner at today’s Board of Directors meeting.

Mark Brandreth, Chief Executive, said: “When it came to me picking May’s Health Hero winner, it was a very easy choice because Kristine is the politest person I have ever met.

“Nothing is ever too much trouble for her, and she is a very valued member of staff here at the Orthopaedic.”
