The seventh National Art Exhibition and Sale of Works at Ellesmere College will welcome work by UK Comics Laureate, Charlie Adlard.

He will be showcasing unseen artwork, life drawing sketches and original pieces from published works.

More than 80 professional artists and sculptors will be exhibiting more than 300 pieces of artwork at the event, which opens for its preview evening on May 30 and continues until June 3.

The exhibition will be opened by its patrons, Sir Algernon Heber-Percy, the Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire, Mrs Diana Flint, former High Sheriff of Shropshire and Carolyn Trevor-Jones, Chair of NADFAS.

Nick Pettingale, director of external relations at Ellesmere College, said: “The Art Exhibition and Sale of Works is a well established event and it is getting bigger and better each year. This year promises to be just as exciting, with the addition of Charlie’s work, and we are very much looking forward to it.”

Charlie Adlard is most well known for being the penciller on the Walking Dead since 2004; his other notable works include Savage, the X Files and the 2000AD series, including Judge Dredd, and Armitage.

As featured artist, Charlie will be exhibiting some exciting unseen work alongside original drawings from White Death, The Breath of the Wendigo and Codeflesh.

Charlie’s work will be in good company with an array of paintings, drawings, ceramics and sculptures created by members of the Royal Cambrian Academy, John Alford, Max Baccanello, and many more.

“There will be a wide and varied selection of original paintings and sculptures to view and to purchase,” Nick added.

“Our goal is to see the artistic talent, both local and national, celebrated and given a higher profile in the region.”

The exhibition, held in the College’s Big School Hall, will be open from 7.30am to 9pm on Wednesday May 30, 11am to 9pm from May 31 to June 2 and from 11am to 2pm on Sunday June 3.
