I SEE Gareth Southgate is planning to name his final 23-man squad plus reserves this week instead of a provisional as he wants it to be a training camp and not a selection camp.

He obviously knows who he wants; he knows his 23 and obviously doesn't want any conflict or confrontation in the squad. He knows his three keepers and 20 outfield players.

I can understand why he's done it though because in previous tournaments, it has caused stress for the camp or players who think they have a chance but were always making the numbers up.

I understand that and it's very good that he knows his 23 too as he can settle it down.

In terms of players who might be able to make a late bid for the squad, I think those who fit into a back three might be it as it looks like he'll play one.

I think Jack Wilshere is someone I would take to the World Cup because he's someone who when needed in the last 30 minutes can change a game. He's had an excellent second-half of the season because Arsene Wenger has been using him for Arsenal.

Consistency is an issue but it is for a lot of players; but Wilshere is a player who can take the sting out of the game and can bring him on for the likes of Jordan Henderson.

It might be a bit early for Trent Alexander-Arnold but he showed what he can do in the Champions League semi-final against Roma, for such as young lad. He's got a lot of competition in front of him with Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier so could be too early for him.
