It was a brilliant end to the season for Oswestry A chess team.

The side completed their fixtures in Division One of the Shropshire Chess League with a 4.5-0.5 win over bottom placed Wellington A. The only player not to win was Charles Lowick Higgie who drew on board two.

Full result: T. Neal 0-1 R. Bryant; T. Faustino 0.5-0.5 C. Lowick Higgie; J. Kuczynski 0-1 B. Whyte; M. Hollier 0-1 D. Bennion; C. Mace 0-1 G. Ives.

The win means Oswestry A finished second in the league, their best result for 40 years.

Top two boards, Richard Bryant and Charles Lowick Higgie were also in action for Shropshire 1sts in the 3rd Division North of the 4NCL (4 Nations Chess League) over the Bank Holiday Weekend in Doncaster.

On Saturday, Richard drew and Charles won, and on Sunday they both won, but on Monday Richard drew and Charles lost, and the team lost 3.5-2.5 and finished third, just missing out on promotion to Division Two, but securing the third place prize money which will be put towards the overall squad for next season when it comes to paying for team fees.
