So IT WILL be Real Madrid against Liverpool in the Champions League final as the Reds saw off the late surge by Roma to book their place.

But it was Tuesday's semi-final between Real and Bayern Munich that fascinated me. I can't believe the difference in quality between a first leg and a second leg.

Tuesday's game had everything; end-to-end, with Bayern scoring so early on, after about three minutes which put the cat among the pigeons.

Real had to attack too and they scored in the 11th minute. It was really good, end-to-end stuff and both teams, if they were being honest, have not really bene at their best.

Bayern have had a fair amount of injuries while Real Madrid have bene out of sync in the league.

There' s been murmurs that Zinedine Zidane's job is in trouble. I'm not here to preach about how good Zidane is but there are reports that there's unrest in the dressing room there.

This is because that as good as a footballer he was, they don't think he's that good a coach.

So both clubs have been at better standards in previous seasons, although Bayern have won the league at a canter again this year.

The game could have gone wither way and Bayern could have got that one more away goal they needed to have taken them through in the last few seconds.

It was a great game but there were two incidents that stood out in the game.

My heart went out to Sven Ulreich after his huge mistake gave Madrid what proved to be decisive goal.

I don't know, and I don't think he knows what he was trying to do. He doesn't know whether to kick it or not and it's going to be replayed for years and years.

I've already seen the memes and gifs on social media and he's not going to get any sympathy – it could haunt him for a very long time.

Then we had James Rodriguez. If I was managing a team that kicked the ball pout for cramp, I would possibly have a word.

We have one team that a player goes down injured on 22 minutes – exactly halfway through the half so they can have a breather. I tell our players not to put it out.
