Students from Derwen College in Gobowen have been focusing their efforts on re-energising the large glasshouses at North Shropshire College's Walford Campus.

The horticulture students have been working with NSC's head gardener, Nicky Worthing, allowing them to put the skills they have learnt in class to use in areas such as plant hygiene, general health and safety with glass and pest control.

Karen Roberts, assistant principal at NSC and Jo White, interim campus manager at Walford, recently rewarded the students for their help and hard work with National Garden Centre gift vouchers.

Peter Leddington, area satellite manager for Derwen @Walford commented: “We are hoping to continue to work with Nicky to use the large greenhouse at Walford. Both the Derwen and NSC students benefit from working collaboratively and sharing each others knowledge and skills.

"We are fortunate to be based on the Walford Campus, with access to a wide range of facilities, as this adds value to our students’ aspirations.

"We look forward to working with NSC on more student led projects in the future.”

Karen added: “We are very grateful for the help and support of the students and staff at Derwen College based at NSC Walford, in helping us tidy our greenhouses ready for the coming growing season.

"We look forward to future plans, working together to support all learners based at our Walford Campus.”
