Llanfyllin Young Farmers Club is celebrating after they won the English Public Speaking Competition which took place at the Tregynon Community Centre last month.

The Young Farmers Club’s Public Speaking Competition, organised and arranged by Montgomery YFC, was a great start to the year for all the clubs around the area.

During the competition, competitors would read a page long passage from a book selected by the judge in front of an audience, with the clearest, most expressive reader winning.

Montgomery YFC held the competition to help members to gain confidence in voicing their opinions and talking to large groups of people.

Llanfyllin YFC came first with their Intermediate Brains Trust and came second with the club's Senior Debating Team, while there were brilliant third and fourth spots for their junior public speaking and reading teams respectively.

Going through to represent their county in the Welsh ‘Just a Minute’ public speaking competition are Grace Potter, Kieron Owen, Lloyd Humphreys, and Iwan Lewis.

Montgomery YFC's next Public Speaking Day will be held at the Royal Welsh Showground, Llanelwedd on March 24.

Meanwhile, Llanfyllin YFC are busy preparing for their pantomime competition, which will hopefully sparred some love across the area as it will be held on February 14 – Valentine's Day.

It will be at Theatre Hafren in Newton.

The club also raised more than £300 before Christmas through Carol Singing around the towns in their patch as well as the farms in their area, and they thank all those who helped.
