An outline planning application for up to 24 new houses to be built in Chirk has been submitted.

Triangular in shape and measuring around 2.6 acres, the site is located between the recreation area and the Mondelez factory, on the northern side of Station Avenue.

As well as creating new homes within the town, the proposed development would also include public open space and the creation of a new access point for vehicles.

Applicants, The Co-Operative Group, who own the strip of land say there is demand for both two and three bedroom properties and that the 24 units would include a mix of detached and semi-detached houses.

Detailed information and photographs of the site in the draft outline proposal have been posted to the company’s website.

In its planning statement the Co-Op said: “It is intended the design of the dwellings will be a high quality contemporary interpretation of the dwellings surrounding the application site.

“Features such as hipped roofs, projecting gables and entrance porches can be introduced to enhance the appearance of the proposed dwellings.

“Other features such as chimneys, part rendered elevations and stone detailing will give variety and reflect the surrounding development.

“If the outline application is approved, the next stage would be a reserved matters approval to agree matters of detail, such as the precise layout, appearance, scale and landscaping of the new dwellings.”

Ecology surveys and heritage assessments have already been completed at the site, which have noted that it lies outside the designated Chirk Conservation Area.

The public can leave feedback about the proposed development in the comments section of the website during a consultation period which runs until December 5.
