The directors of a Wrexham-based fireworks business were celebrating last week after their company triumphed at a prestigious display competition.

Childhood friends Daniel Williams from Chirk and Steffan Williams from Llangollen, formed the Bright Sparks Fireworks Display company in 2011.

The pair and their 15-strong event crew have specialised in professional displays for weddings, parties and special occasions ever since.

Competing at the recent three-night British Musical Firework Championships 2016 held at Southport, the company won the coveted title with an 80s-inspired extravaganza lasting almost 20 minutes.

Reflecting on the honour, Steffan said: “We’re absolutely delighted – over the moon in fact, to have won this competition. This company was born out of the love of fireworks that Daniel and I shared as friends in our younger years.

“We were up against six of the best firework display companies in the whole of the UK, so to have been chosen by the professional judging panel and the lay judges on the night was great.

“We operate with quite a small crew so to pull off something of this scale and to walk away as British champions is an amazing achievement.”

On the final day of the championship and in poor weather conditions, the company’s crew spent almost 12 hours preparing and structuring the winning display.

With backing music provided by the likes of 80s pop giants Frankie Goes to Hollywood, the incendiary spectacular proved a hit with judges and spectators alike.

“We were really up against it on the day” Steffan added, “but in spite of the wind and bad weather, we wanted to put on a real feel-good firework show which would be fun for everyone watching.

“I think we managed it and that’s a credit to our crew, which includes Daniel’s brother, David, who is one of our lead pyrotechnicians.

“They all worked so hard to pull it off. Without their hard work, professionalism and determination none of this would be possible.”

The company, who have organised several of the bonfire night displays at Chirk’s AAA sports club, offer year-round displays for weddings, parties and other special occasions.
