A team of fundraisers who completed a marathon bed push from Gobowen to Wrexham have raised more than £2,000 for charity.

Andrew Davies from Oswestry led the group of four on their gruelling 18-mile challenge on Sunday, September 25.

Mr Davies lost his 15-year-old son Charlie to Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in May of last year and was keen to raise as much money as he could for Muscular Dystrophy UK.

Pushing a wheeled hospital bed from the Orthopaedic Hospital to Wrexham Maelor Hospital, the group completed their route in an impressive six hours and 42 minutes.

The challenge saw three of the team pushing one member along for 15-minute intervals with one person astride the bed at all times.

Contributions from Oswestry companies including Colour Supplies, The Little Food Company and Park Avenue Stores helped the group smash their fundraising target with a total of £2,300.

A £200 donation was also made by workers at Oswestry’s Veolia Environmental Services site.

Mr Davies said: “We’re hugely grateful to all the local companies who gave so generously to our fundraising campaign.

“As well as a cash donation, we had bottles of water donated by the Little Food Company, which really kept us going on the day.

“The challenge was tough and some of the hills we had to get up were pretty punishing. It didn’t help that the heaviest lad on the challenge always seemed to be on the bed while we were travelling uphill!

“We had some lads running alongside us with collection buckets and the public helped us raise another £150 on the day – which was fantastic. We’d like to thank everyone who made a donation.
