A MOTORCYCLIST is recovering in hospital from serious injuries after losing control of his machine.
The 20-year-old Ellesmere man suffered chest and spinal injuries after colliding with a tree and coming to rest in a ditch near Wem at around 4.30am on Thursday.
The rider was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire where his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
Sergeant Alex Saxton of West Mercia Police said: “As with all fatal and serious injury collisions, a full investigation is underway.
“Although the crash happened early in the morning when the roads would have been very quiet, we hope someone may have witnessed it and will be able to provide information which will help us piece together what happened.
"
No other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the incident which occurred at the junction of the B5063 and B4397.
The man, who had been travelling on a black Kymco Pulsar motorcycle, was given first aid by the fire service upon arrival and police and ambulance crews also attended.
Police closed the road by the junction of B4397 for recovery work for about four hours and firefighters from Wem, Prees and an officer from Shrewsbury were all in attendance.
