THE New Saints have unveiled former Manchester United youngster Jamie Mullan as their latest signing after the winger put pen to paper on a move from Stalybridge Celtic.

Twenty four-year-old Mullan, who has also spent time at the Notts County academy before leaving Old Trafford, can operate on either flank and will provide competition in the wide spaces for Chris Jones and Ryan Fraughan following Jason Lampkin’s departure.

Lampkin, who arrived from Aston Villa, left for Colwyn Bay having made just one start and four substitute appearances in the Welsh Premier League since his Summer arrival, but Mullan will have his sights set upon nailing a regular first team berth after admitting the draw of European competition was a major factor in his decision to join the Oswestry club.

“I am really looking forward to it because not many players can say they have played in Europe,” Mullan said.
“I have only been here a couple of days, but so far the lads have been great with me.
“I am an attacking player and I like to take players on. Hopefully the fans will enjoy watching me play,” he added.

Following four years in Manchester, Mullan joined Rochdale for a short spell before going on to make more than 50 appearances for Northwich Victoria where he won their Young Player of the Year Award in 2008.

Nottingham-born Mullan signed a two-year deal with Fleetwood in 2009 where he played over 30 times as they lifted the Conference North title before joining Alfreton Town and then Stalybridge before making his move to the reigning Welsh Premier League Champions.

Saints’ director of football, Craig Harrison said: “We have done our homework on Jamie and he is a tricky winger with plenty of pace and reminds me of an old fashioned wide man.

“The deal is fantastic for the club and will most certainly give the side that extra push this season,” he added.
