FOOTBALL fans in Oswestry were frustrated for a second consecutive week in their bid to see some sporting action as The New Saints’ Welsh FA Cup clash with Rhyl fell victim to the snow.

The hotly anticipated cup tie was expected to be televised live before being called off, with S4C hastily switching their cameras to Connah’s Quay’s Deeside Stadium instead.

The New Saints had also been disappointed in their bid to stage their Welsh Premier League fixture against Aberystwyth on January 19 for the same reason, but next Tuesday (February 5) has been confirmed as the date for the postponed fourth round cup encounter against Rhyl.

The match kicks-off at Park Hall from 7.30pm with TNS looking to bounce back from their League Cup final heartache by successfully defending the Welsh FA Cup they won last season.

Supporters eagerly awaiting the Saints match against Aberystwyth will finally get to see the game played out this Saturday at 4.15pm with The New Saints looking to extend their seven point lead at the top of the Welsh Premier League in the final game before the mid-season split.

Fixtures that have been also been confirmed at Saints’ Park Hall ground this weekend include the TNS Youth FAW Cup tie against Swansea City, by whom they were defeated in a closely contested final last year.

They will be gunning to avenge their 2-1 loss to progress to the semi-finals of this season’s competition when the game kicks off on Sunday at 5.30pm, and deny the Swans a fourth consecutive trophy triumph in the process.

Prior to that the Independent Schools Under 18 team will play the Welsh Schools FA Under 18s in a friendly at 2pm.
