theWord League Cup Final
Carmarthen Town 3, The New Saints 3 (after extra time)
(Carmarthen won 3-1 on penalties)
THE New Saints suffered heartache in theWord League Cup Final as they fell victim to a dramatic penalty shoot-out to end their dreams of a historic treble-winning campaign at the hands of Carmarthen.
Craig Harrison’s men were punished for their profligacy from the penalty spot as the Old Gold lifted silverware to the dismay of the TNS fans who had watched their side twice take the lead at Newtown’s Latham Park only for Michael Wilde to force the game into extra-time as Carmarthen hit back to stun the pre-match favourites.
Connell Rawlinson went closest to snatching a winner for Oswestry’s Welsh Premier League Champions when he headed in a Ryan Fraughan corner late in the second period of extra-time, but referee Nick Pratt disallowed the goal, leaving Carmarthen to deny TNS a fourth League Cup win in five years.
