EIGHTEEN new homes are to be built at Park Hall near Oswestry after being given the green light by councillors.

Shropshire Council’s North Planning Committee met in Wem last week to approve the development which was warmly welcomed by members and will provide affordable housing in a move supported by Whittington Parish Council.

The 1.8-acre site will feature 16 two-storey two and three-bedroom semi-detached homes and two two-bedroom bungalows. The application was submitted by the Meres and Mosses Housing association and also includes a communal area of parkland.

Planning committee member, Cllr David Lloyd said: “This is such an ideal site and a development that is desperately needed.
“I don’t think it would be wise to turn it down.”

Fellow member, Cllr Joyce Barrow stated: “I am quite enthused about it. It is an excellent site. All the houses are well spaced and the buffer zone is large enough.”

Cllr Vince Hunt added: “It is a very nice application.
“There is a need for affordable housing and this is exactly the right scheme with the right density in exactly the right space.”

However, Cllr Gerald Dakin did express his concern as to whether or not any priority would be granted to local people.
