The New Saints could face Northern Irish side Crusaders in the Irn Bru Challenge Cup after Scottish FA chiefs ordered a replay of their game against Livingston.

At a disciplinary hearing held on Monday, a sub-committee of the SPFL Board charged Livingston with fielding an ineligible player against Crusaders on October 7.

Alan Lithgow played the full 90 minutes in the Scottish League One side's 2-1 victory in the competition’s revised format, which included Welsh and Northern Irish sides for the first time this season.

The 28-year-old defender was ineligible as he was under a Scottish FA suspension at the time.

Livingston pleaded guilty to breach of the regulations of the SPFL Challenge Cup competition.

As a result, the club were censured, ordered to replay the game against the Northern Irish champions and fined £4,000.

The replay has been arranged for Tuesday, November 1 with a 7.45pm kick-off at Seaview Stadium, Belfast.

SPFL Chief Executive Neil Doncaster said: “In the interests of sporting integrity and fairness to both sides, the game will be replayed.”

TNS will face an away trip to the winners of the replay, which is scheduled to be played on Sunday, November 13.
